Ewen Maddock Dam
Along
the Tracks Experience
the essence of nature at Ewen Maddock Dam with an abundance
of various flora and fauna. Eucalypt forest and woodlands,
occuring in the drier regions is host to species such
as Blackbutt, scribbly Gum, Wattle and Pink Bloodwood.
Paperbark wetlands occuring in the lower waterlogged
areas. Heathland can be found on the moist sandy plains
of the western shore of the dam, a variety of Banksia,
bottle brush and tea tree can be found here. The gallery
Forest can be found in the moist gulleys of the Eucalypt
forest, numerous rainforest species can be found here
as well as swamp mahogany and tallowwood.

Fauna at the Reserve
The dam shallow inlets have been colonised by sedges
and water lillies which provide an ideal habitat for
many species of waterbirds, insects and amphibians.
184 bird species have been recorded in and around the
dam including Azure Kingfisher, Fairy Wrens and Yellow
Tailed Cockatoo. Other wildlife to look out for are
Swamp Wallabies, Bandicoots, Frogs, Keelback Snakes.
Keep a watchfull eye for snakes for your safety. Remeber
all Flora and Fauna in the reserve is protected so please
respect them and there home. |
Please Remember
- Stay on marked tracks
only
- Horses are only allowed on Track No.1
(walkers must give way to horses)
- Dogs on leads are welcome (dog waste
bins provided at Gympie street Nth enterance & Maddock
Pk)
- Do not feed native animals
- Take care near water and avoid restricted areas of
the dam for your safety
- Dispose of all rubbish in bins provided
- Camping is only permitted at the recreation centre.

- Canoes and other non-motorised water craft can be
launched from designated sites only.
- Shore fishing is permitted in the park in all areas
except the beach and canoe launch areas. |
